The historic tuberculosis sanitorium, built by Dr. Nathan Boyd around 1910. I felt the place must have been rather depressing for a sick TB patient, and wanted to bring that out in the image. Even though the place is surrounded by beauty, it is in a very dark shadow of the mountain much of the day, so to me it seemed a somber place to live and die. I did quite a bit of work on this, first using a blend of 4 photos taken at different exposures, then bringing out the gritty textures, then turning it to a black-and-white image. I also removed a distracting sign in Photoshop. Taken in the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.
