Last year around this time, I was able to go on a vision quest of sorts. I spent two weeks, most of that time in complete solitude, in a wonderful place. Right outside my RV window was an aspen tree (Populus tremuloides), and Steller's jays (Cyanocitta stelleri) would land in it. I'd wait until the sun had just gone down behind the mountain so there wouldn't be any hotspots on the leaves and trunk. And then the full colors of my favorite species of jay would be revealed. Taken in Coyote Creek State Park, New Mexico, USA.
