Before dawn, I arose on a midwinter's morning. A friend and I were going to the mountains to look for ice formations on a small creek. During the course of our hike in and up the creek, I repeatedly slipped on the ice and had totally numb, aching fingers. My tripod balked and would no longer extend because its joints had frozen up, too. It was all worth it because we found many gifts from Winter. I could care less about wearing diamonds, but when I found this fallen branch wearing its sparkling jewels, I was ecstatic. Taken in the Gila National Forest, New Mexico, USA.
